Your Privacy Matters

Last updated: July 22, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Binder ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use our trading-card collection, scanning, valuation, trading, and social features (collectively, the "Service"). By using Binder, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information You Provide

When you create an account and use Binder, we collect:

  • Account details: your name, email address, username/display name, and password (stored securely and never in plain text).
  • Profile information: profile photo, banner image, bio, and any customization you add.
  • Collection data: the trading cards you scan or add, including player names, years, sets, card numbers, serial numbers, conditions, grades, estimated values, and your private notes.
  • Card images: photos you capture or upload of the front and back of your cards, including live ownership-verification frames.
  • Binders & organization: binders you create, their names, categories, descriptions, and public/private status.
  • Messages & trades: direct messages, group chats, photo/card attachments, trade offers, cash offers, and related transaction history with other users.
  • Communities: communities you create or join, posts, comments, likes, and reports you submit.
  • Events: events you post (title, dates, venue, website, banner image) and events you mark yourself "Interested" in.
  • Support content: bug reports, feedback, and any communications you send us.

2. Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data: features you use, pages you view, scans performed, and interactions within the app.
  • Device & technical data: device type, operating system, browser, IP address, and app version.
  • Camera access: we access your camera only while you are actively scanning a card. Live camera frames are processed on your device; only the images you choose to save are uploaded.
  • Cookies & local storage: we use local storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences (e.g., flashlight setting, onboarding state).

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To identify, grade, and value your cards using AI and real market data.
  • To build and display your collection, binders, profile, and portfolio analytics.
  • To enable social features: following, messaging, group chats, communities, posts, and discovering other collectors.
  • To power events: publishing your posted events app-wide, showing interested-member lists, and notifying interested users about event updates or cancellations.
  • To process trades, cash offers, and ownership transfers, and to maintain a provenance/ownership history ledger.
  • To send notifications and emails you've enabled (price alerts, new followers, trade activity, product updates).
  • To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security issues, and technical problems.
  • To improve the Service, including AI accuracy and market valuation models.

4. AI Processing & Third-Party Services

To identify cards, estimate condition, and determine market value, your card images and details may be processed by trusted third-party AI and data providers. We also retrieve market comparables and sources from public marketplaces and search services. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use your content for unrelated purposes.

5. What Other Users Can See

  • New cards and binders are public by default so collectors can discover them — you can switch any card, binder, or your whole collection to private at any time.
  • Public cards, binders, and for-sale listings may appear in search, Explore, the public directory, and on your public profile — including to search engines that index public pages.
  • Posts and comments in public communities are visible to all users; private-community posts are visible to members only.
  • Events you post are visible app-wide (and on a public event page), including your name as host and the list of interested members.
  • Your username, profile photo, and public collection value (if enabled) are visible to other users.
  • When you message, trade, or make an offer, the other party sees your username, image, and the relevant card and offer details.
  • You can hide your collection, remove yourself from search, and hide your total value at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security.

6. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We only share data:

  • With service providers who help operate the app (hosting, AI, email, analytics) under confidentiality obligations.
  • With other users, only as described in "What Other Users Can See".
  • When required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.

7. Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Ownership-history and trade records may be retained to preserve provenance integrity. You can export your collection (Settings → Data → Export Collection) or request deletion at any time.

8. Your Rights & Choices

  • Access & export: download your collection as a CSV from Settings.
  • Correction: edit your profile, username, and card details directly in the app.
  • Privacy controls: toggle private collection, search visibility, and value display.
  • Notifications: manage email and alert preferences in Settings → Notifications.
  • Deletion: delete individual cards, binders, or your entire account (Settings → Danger Zone).

9. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit, secure authentication, and access controls, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work continuously to protect your information.

10. Children's Privacy

Binder is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
