Sunday's game between the Chargers and Seahawks is the first in decades to start with consecutive interceptions.

The two quarterbacks each threw an interception on the very first plays from scrimmage during the Seattle Seahawks' 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers at Lumen Field. While the picks offset each other and essentially allowed the game to reset, it marked the first time that an NFL game has started with consecutive interceptions since at least 1978, according to ESPN .
Herbert went first with what looked like a pretty bad decision on his part to get the contest going. Herbert, after faking the handoff, was trying to find Oronde Gadsden in triple coverage. The ball was easily intercepted by Drake Thomas. Darnold then returned the favor, and threw a short pass that was intended for Emanuel Wilson behind him and right into the hands of Tuli Tuipulotu, who ran it back four yards. It marked Tuipulotu's first career interception, and ended up leading to a 40-yard field goal that put the Chargers in the lead first.
But Darnold made up for his interception quickly. This time he found Wilson for a 23-yard touchdown after the Chargers muffed a punt return on the very next drive. That set the Seahawks up in great position to take the lead back.
