Yankees' strong pitching performance in Game 1 shows why ALDS is far from over

But Gerrit Cole 's sharp stuff, another strong wave of pitching from the bullpen and the looming spectre of Cam Schlittler in Game 2 (and Game 5) are all evidence that this ALDS is far from over. Yes, even if the Yankees now have to win three times in four games with Rasmussen due for another start in this series.

"We got to get them tomorrow โ€“ well, Monday," Cole told reporters at Tropicana Field afterward, looking ahead to Game 2. "It's an opportunity to bounce back. We know they're a tough opponent. Look, they're going to land some blows and you've got to take blows in the postseason and dish them out, too."

Cole delivered five solid innings, marred only by a terrific swing by the Rays' No. 2 hitter, Jonathan Aranda . Aranda's solo home run in the third inning was the game's only run. Cole allowed five hits, struck out five and walked one and then Ryan Weathers (1.0 IP), Paul Blackburn (1.2 IP) and Brent Headrick (0.1 IP) combined for three scoreless frames of relief.
