Former NHL defenseman Lyle Odelein has died at 58. He won a Stanley Cup with the Canadiens and was the Blue Jackets' first captain.

Lyle Odelein, the Columbus Blue Jackets ' first captain and a rugged Stanley Cup-winning defenseman whose NHL career spanned 16 seasons and eight teams, has died at the age of 58, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported .
A native of Saskatchewan, Odelein entered the NHL in 1989 and played the first seven seasons of his career with the Montreal Canadiens . The crease-clearing defenseman won a Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1992-93.
His best season came the following year when he scored a career-best 11 goals (including a hat trick), 29 assists and 40 points, while also getting his most penalty minutes (276).
