The defense did their job at first, but then it was up to the offense to close it out. They were on their way to doing that, but then Watson missed a wide open target that could have sealed the game essentially. Instead, Pittsburgh got the ball back, Rodgers got hot, and had Pittsburgh in the red zone. On a fourth down, a pass interference flag kept them alive, and they got the touchdown and two-point try to tie things up at 24-24.
Instead of going to overtime, though, K Andre Szmyt drilled a field goal from 56 yards out to put the Browns up 27-24 with ten seconds to go. Cleveland held on and improved to 3-1 โ holding sole possession of first place in the AFC North for the moment.
The Browns received the opening kickoff, but a holding penalty made them start further back. Cleveland started with three positive plays, but it ultimately led to a 4th-and-1, and head coach Todd Monken wasn't willing to gamble early. After P Corey Bojorquez' quick punt, Pittsburgh began at the 22 yard line. It looked like Pittsburgh might go three-and-out too, but on 3rd-and-11, a quick screen to WR DK Metcalf picked up 15 yards and a first down.
