Dolphins sign linebacker to main roster; add offensive lineman to practice squad

Miami signed linebacker Shaka Heyward off of the Cincinnati Bengals ' practice squad. The move immediately adds Heyward to the Dolphins' 53-man roster where he must remain for a minimum of three weeks according to NFL rules.

Heyward — 26 years old — is the cousin of Cameron Heyward ( Pittsburgh Steelers ) and Connor Heyward ( Las Vegas Raiders ). He played in 18 games with the Bengals over the past two seasons — recording eight tackles on defense (three solo), including one tackle for loss, adding 14 special teams tackles (six solo) and one special teams forced fumble.

The Dolphins also signed guard James Ester to their practice squad. Ester was previously with the Dolphins this summer after he was awarded to the team off of waivers following his release from the Green Bay Packers . A former defensive tackle in college at Northern Illinois, Ester spent his first two seasons in the NFL on Green Bay's practice squad.
