Macklin Celebrini, 20, expected to be named San Jose Sharks captain

The San Jose Sharks have called a 12:30 p.m. PT (3:30 p.m. ET) news conference on Friday, Sept. 25, and their advisory included a couple mid-word capital Cs, the letter worn by NHL captains. A second advisory said Celebrini would be in attendance.

If Celebrini does get the C at 20 years, 104 days old, it would be a logical progession for the 2024 No. 1 overall pick who's entering his third NHL season.

The 2024 Hobey Baker Award winner as college hockey's top men's player is noted for his maturity and has put up big numbers on the ice. Following a 63-point rookie season, he broke San Jose's franchise record for single-season scoring last season with 115 points. The Sharks improved by 34 points and missed the playoffs by four points.
