Series Preview: Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals

The Brewers, at 99 wins entering Thursday night's series finale in Philadelphia , have four more chances to reach the 100-win threshold for the first time in franchise history. Their magic number for the No. 1 overall seed also sits at 2, meaning they need some combination of two wins and Dodgers ' losses to lock it up over these next few days. On the other side, the Cardinals , at 77-81, got off to a strong start despite low expectations entering the season. They've cooled off considerably over the last few months and now look like they'll finish just below .500 but still ahead of the "Why aren't we the Brewers" Reds at the bottom of the NL Central.

On the injury front, the Brewers are without relievers Grant Anderson and Bryse Wilson (both could be activated for Thursday's series finale in Philadelphia), as well as Brian Fitzpatrick and Angel Zerpa (both out for season). Starters Quinn Priester (out for season) and Brandon Woodruff (slim chance of returning in the postseason) are also out.

St. Louis is without position players Blaze Jordan, Joshua Báez, and Everson Pereira . Pereira is the only player we could see this weekend, as he was on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis entering their postseason series this week. Pitchers Hunter Dobbins and Max Rajcic are also done for the year.
