St. Louis Cardinals Bats Awaken as they Beat Pirates Wednesday Night

After a relatively quiet 1st inning for both teams, the Pirates were the first to score in the bottom of the 2nd inning and they did it in a very loud way when Matthew Liberatore threw a 93 mph four-seam fastball down the middle of the plate and the Pirates Brandon Lowe did not miss it. The ball soared 434 feet nearly leaving PNC Park in right field giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals more than answered in the top of the 3rd inning when JJ Wetherholt smacked a one-out single. After Iván Herrera walked, MLB RBI leader Alec Burleson added to his total with a single that scored JJ tying the game at 1-1. Herrera advanced to third on Burleson's single which would prove important as he'd score soon after on a wild pitch from Pirates reliever Curtis giving the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. Leo Bernal decided that wasn't good enough as he singled to right scoring Burleson making it 3-1 St. Louis .

The Cardinals bats would continue to pile on in the top of the 4th inning when José Fermín reached on an infield hit. Two batters later, Masyn Winn lined a double into the right-centerfield gap scoring Fermin upping the St. Louis advantage to 4-1.
