Duop Reath chose the Suns, that doesn’t make him a savior

I like that Reath brings the archetype of a stretch five, something the Suns don't necessarily have right now, although I believe Khaman Maluach can eventually develop into that kind of player. I also like the potential mentorship aspect with Maluach. Both are Sudanese and have taken their own journeys to reach the NBA. And guess what? Maluach's developmental timeline got bumped up pretty significantly following the injury to Mark Williams . That comes with added responsibility. Having somebody around, even at the front end of this journey, who can provide some mentorship is an astute way to utilize the roster while helping the young kid navigate what's ahead.

All of that is good. But everybody needs to drink some settle-down juice when it comes to Duop Reath .

We have to remember who and what he is as a player. He's 30 years old, so developmentally, his best years are most likely behind him. And truth be told, he really has one transferable NBA skill that everyone seems to be salivating over. He can shoot.
