Mets place outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on waivers, despite hot-hitting August

With Robert, 29, still owed approximately $3 million on his 2025 club option and $2 million to buy him out of next year's $20 million option, another MLB team is unlikely to claim him on waivers unless a right-handed batter and good defensive outfielder is considered worth that price.

Teams have 48 hours from the time Robert was placed on waivers to make a claim. He has to be on a roster by Sept. 1 to be eligible for the postseason.

If Robert clears waivers, the Mets could opt to keep him on their roster as the Cincinnati Reds did this week with Eugenio Suárez and TJ Friedl . Both players are continuing to play for the Reds while on waivers.
