The good news? The Rams still have an exciting player on which to keep an eye. Rookie first-round quarterback Ty Simpson is battling veteran Stetson Bennett IV for the backup job behind Matthew Stafford .

Simpson enjoyed an efficient outing in his first preseason game, showing an excellent command of McVay's offense along with the elite accuracy and ball placement that helped make him the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. He didn't play as much in preseason Week 2, but should be in for plenty of action against the Chargers.
