Carson Benge being intentionally walked by Brewers a 'declaration to the league' Mets rookie is a good hitter

Going up against the MLB-best Brewers , the Mets outfielder went 3-for-4 with a walk in the team's 3-2 win. But it's that walk that's particularly interesting.

With the ghost runner on second with one out in a tied game in the 10th, the Brewers elected to intentionally walk Benge. Of course, the outfielder had three hits already in the game, but the Brewers felt it was necessary to walk the rookie in this key situation. As interim manager Andy Green sees it, the move was a sign of respect.

"I wish they pitched to Carson," Green said after the win. "When you're sitting on the top step of the dugout wishing they'd pitch to your guy, it's pretty shrewd they don't pitch to your guy. Fairly straightforward there, just a really good contact hitter with a runner on second and a base open in the 10th. I get what they were thinking on that side.
